Hydroxyzine hydrochloride is histamine H1 antagonist, antipruritic and anxiolytic, sedative and hypnotic agent. It helps in suppression of histaminic edema, flare and pruritus, but it has poor patient compliance due to its bitterness. So its taste should be masked to formulate it in a palatable dosage form. So in the present work undertaken , an attempt was made to mask the taste of Hydroxyzine hydrochloride by complexation technique using Ion exchange resin (IER), Indion- 234 (Polyacrylic hydrogen with carboxylic functionality), and to formulate mouth dissolving tablet(MDT). The drug -IER complex (resinate) was evaluated for taste masking and characterized by DSC, IR. MDTs were formulated using resinate by direct compression method using solid drug: resin complex of Hydroxyzine HCl with indion-234 (equivalent to dose of drug, 1:3 ratios). Super disintegrating agents like Croscarmellose Sodium, sodium starch glycolate, crospovidone, L-HPC, Pregelatinised Starch and combination of sodium bicarbonate and citric acid (1.5:1). Formulations were coded as formulation F1, F2, F3, F4, F5 and F6 respectively. Tablets are evaluated for hardness, friability, Disintegration time, Thickness, weight variation and drug content and In vitro release study. The tablets disintegrated in vitro with in 10-50 sec. Cros povidone shows lesser disintegration time from all the formulation. The result showed that Hydroxyzine HCl was successfully taste masked and formulated into MDT as an alternative to conventional tablets. Keywords

Hence an attempt was made to mask the taste of Hydroxyzine hydrochloride with strong and weak cation exchange resins. The complex formation of drug with different cation exchange resins was carried out to block the functional group responsible for causing bitter taste. DSC analysis, X-ray diffractometry, FTIR spectra and decomplexation studies give evidences of complex formation.Hydroxyzine hydrochloride shows good complexation and effective taste masking with strong cation exchanger like Tulsion-343, Tulsion-344 and weak cation exchanger like Indion-234. But Tulsion-343 and Tulsion-344 resins affect the drug release from complex at gastric pH due to their sustained release action. The complex for formulation was selected considering the results obtained from release of drug from complex at salivary pH as well as at gastric pH, sensory evaluation of complex. Accelerated stability studies (at 40°C ± 2°C /75% RH±5% RH) on the selected resinate indicate that there are no significant change in drug content and in vitro dissolution profile (p < 0.05).Keywords

An experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications and twelve treatment combinations formed due to (A) three sowing dates viz., 49th MSW (D1), 50th MSW (D2), 51st MSW (D3), four potash levels, 0 kg K2O ha-1 (K1), 25 kg K2O ha-1 (K2), 50 kg K2O ha-1 (K3) and 75 kg K2O ha-1 (K4). The soil of experimental field was deep black clayey in texture, low in available nitrogen (148.25 kg ha-1), medium in available phosphorus (16.64 kg ha-1) and very high in potassium (432.58 kg ha-1) with slightly alkaline in reaction (pH 8.1). The chickpea was sown on various sowing dates viz., 10th, 17th and 24th December 2009. The treatments of potassium levels along with recommended dose of fertilizer (25:50:00 kg NPK ha-1) was given at the time of sowing. The seeds were treated with rhizobium culture @ 25 g per kg seeds. The value of yield attributes such as number of pods per plant (46.99), weight of grain per plant (12.75 g) and weight of 100 seeds (26.28 g) were significantly higher when chickpea was sown on 10th December over crop sown on 24th December but it remained at par with 17th December sown chickpea. The yield attributes viz., number of pod, weight of pod, weight of grains per plant and 100 seed weight (g) were significantly the highest due to application of 50 kg K2O ha-1. The protein content in the grain was significantly increased with increased potash levels. The interaction effect between sowing dates and potash levels on growth, yield and quality of chickpea were non-significant. Thus, from the results of the present investigation it is concluded that for Rabi chickpea (cv. DIGVIJAY) on deep black soil under irrigated conditions, 10th December sown crop along with application of 50 kg K2O ha-1 through muriate of potash at the time of sowing would be the best proportion for higher productivity. Keywords
